EUSBSR Flagship Project BEST – Better Efficiency for Industrial Sewage Treatment – was completed at the end of September 2020. The flagship contributed to PA Nutri Action 2: Reduce nutrient emissions from urban areas and other point sources, and also implemented the horizontal aspect of cooperating with non-EU Member States by including water utility and industrial partners from Russia.

Saving the sea through entrepreneurship

“While writing my Bachelor’s thesis, I really started to think what I want to do when I graduate. It took some time to figure it out but eventually two things stood out clearly: being an entrepreneur and making the world a better place," tells Paavo Vallas, an entrepreneur from Finland.

EUSBSR Flagship project ‘Baltic Blue Growth’ has implemented several pilot mussel farms in the Baltic Sea and explored under which biological and financial conditions mussel farming is possible.

EUSBSR Flaghip project NutriTrade mixes activities to implement practical measures and to develop longer-term solutions to combat eutrophication. In particular, its digital crowdfunding platform Nutribute may prove to multiply the impact of the flagship over the time. Nutribute facilitates encountering of Baltic Sea savers and can be used as a fundraising tool for concrete measures to reduce eutrophication. In other words, Nutribute harnesses digital technology to contribute towards cleaning the Baltic Sea and thus contributes to the EUSBSR ‘Save the Sea’ objective.
