The potential benefits of art and culture for health and well-being have been well studied and proven, but they are not yet widely used. The Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme 2021-2027 core project “Arts on Prescription in the Baltic Sea Region” aims to change that by helping public authorities, and cultural and health institutions to engage people with mental health challenges in social and non-therapy art activities to improve their mental wellbeing.

The NDPHS/PA Health coordinator together with the other project partners from seven Baltic Sea Region countries under the leadership of Odense Municipality in Denmark, jointly develop a model programme that is based on state-of-the-art evidence and experience, but adaptable to different local conditions and public health systems. The programme will be piloted by local and regional public authorities in cooperation with cultural institutions and evaluated for its health effects, organisational set-up, and economic benefits.

The project partners met for a kick-off meeting in February 2023 in Odense, Denmark, to learn from Odense municipality's rich experience with implementing Arts on Prescription schemes successfully and to plan for the upcoming three years.
