Description

The status of the Baltic Sea needs joint efforts from all Baltic Sea states to achieve the good status of its marine environment by 2021.

The results of the first version of the ‘State of the Baltic Sea’ report show that although there have been signs of improvement in some cases, the Baltic Sea Action Plan’s goals and ecological objectives have not been achieved.

This high-level panel will discuss how to proceed with our joint efforts in the light of EUSBSR, the HELCOM BSAP, the ‘State of the Baltic Sea’ report (holistic assessment), the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the results of the recent HELCOM ministerial meeting. Even though the 2021 objective has not been reached, we need to move forward as quickly as possible in order to ensure effective regional cooperation and thus input for global ocean challenges.

Session coordinator

Ms Agni Kaldma, Senior Officer, Ministry of the Environment of Estonia
